Introduction / About this site
About this site
woods.tokyo is a site that brings together, with sources, the history of Tokyo's forests and forestry and of the relationship between trees and people. It follows mountain forests, green in the city, timber buildings and the timber trade, from before the Edo period to the present.
The author
The author takes on grass-cutting and tree-felling work and is also involved in managing forests and land. I started this site because I wanted to know what history lies behind the forests and trees I work on every day.
Writing rules
- Every fact comes with a source. Materials from national and local governments take priority; when private websites or travel information sites are used, this is stated.
- When years or figures differ between sources, both are given rather than choosing one (bibliography chapter).
- What I have seen in the field is written separately from sourced statements, under "From the field."
- All photos on this site were taken by the author. Please do not reproduce them without permission.
- Photos of exhibit panels and signs are included as quotations so the text can discuss their content. They are cropped to the needed part, or the photos within them are blurred.
- Faces of people and vehicle license plates are blurred.
- Descriptions of taxes, laws and public schemes are general explanations. For individual cases, please check with the local government or a professional.
- If a rights holder raises a concern about a photo or quotation, we will check it and promptly correct or remove it.
- The Japanese version is the original text. Other language versions are based on machine translation; where they differ, the Japanese version is authoritative.
